New Maryland Tax Portal

New Maryland Tax Portal

Updated 4/5/24

Since the new Maryland Tax Connect portal went live in February, over 100,000 businesses have registered. To assist businesses with accessing and registering for the Maryland Tax Connect portal, all PIN expirations have been extended until April 30, 2024. The Comptroller’s Office is also forgiving penalties and interest for late filings during the transition to Maryland Tax Connect.

What is Maryland Tax Connect?

Maryland Tax Connect is a self-service portal that allows Maryland business taxpayers to file their taxes online and interact with the Comptroller’s Office with increased ease and security. By 2026, all Maryland taxpayers will be able to pay their state taxes through the Maryland Tax Connect portal.

What Can I Expect From the Portal?

Taxpayers will notice improvements to the appearance of Maryland tax forms and the overall online experience. The form numbers have not changed, but there are several formatting changes to the layout.

Accessible from either a mobile device or on a desktop, the portal is designed to allow taxpayers to complete several simple and vital functions themselves, including:

  • Making online payments
  • Updating personal information
  • Retrieving tax information
  • Filing returns
  • Viewing filing and tax history
  • Registering a business
  • Applying for or renewing business licenses
  • Applying for sales and use tax exemption certificates

How Do I Register for an Account?

Throughout the month of February, the Office of the Comptroller will be mailing welcome letters to existing bFile users and business taxpayers. These welcome letters will contain a personal identification number (PIN) for Maryland Tax Connect that will expire 45 days after its creation. Business administrators can register their business entity for an account once they receive the letter. They will need their PIN and Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) to complete the registration process.

Business administrators can authorize third parties, such as CPAs, accountants, tax consultants, attorneys, tax preparers or payroll companies, to access information on Maryland Tax Connect.

What Taxes Can Business Filers Pay Through the Portal?

Business filers will be able to pay the following Maryland business taxes through Maryland Tax Connect:

  • Alcohol Tax (will be available no later than Q3 of 2024)
  • Corporate Tax
  • Tax Withholding
  • Tobacco Tax
  • Motor Fuel Tax
  • Sales and Use Tax
  • Tire Recycling Fee
  • Bay Restoration Fee
  • Admissions and Amusement Tax
