I joined the Firm as a tax manager in June 2020 – the summer of COVID. This was an unusual time to begin a new position, and during 2020, I quickly learned the character and values of leaders are most transparent during times of crisis. Our leadership always put the wellbeing of our people and clients first, and our culture of compassion, unification and extraordinary outcomes was only exemplified during this difficult time! Brown Plus understands the Firm’s success is tied to the success of its people and teams. Our leaders are committed to offering opportunities for learning and growth and were very supportive in my decision to pursue my Masters in Taxation degree! The Firm is always looking for new ways to make the workplace fun and to improve life balance – from wellness reimbursements (for things like sneakers and massages) to 36-hour summer work weeks. Brown Plus is truly the best CPA firm to work for.
I started as an intern with Brown Plus during the summer to get useful, real world experience to include on my resume; little did I know I would be offered the opportunity to come back and work full-time once I graduated, then be here for 16+ years. Brown Plus has a positive work environment that promotes flexibility, teamwork and community, amongst many other things. Out of everything, my favorite part is the people. From fellow team members, clients, or others in the community, I have the privilege of collaborating with great people that help me learn and think outside of my normal parameters.
I had a very non-traditional start to my accounting career, serving four years in the Marine Corps prior to starting college. After leaving the military, one of the things that I missed most was the comradery amongst peers and leaders. That’s exactly what I found at Brown Plus and why I have continued my career in public accounting with Brown Plus. The leadership at Brown Plus wants to see you succeed. They encourage you and celebrate you in both your professional career and life milestones. One of the things I value most is the life balance that is engrained in the culture of the Firm. Coming into an entry-level position with a family can be intimidating; however, the flexible work environment, unified team and job autonomy gave me the time to study and pass the CPA exam, advance my role in the Firm and even expand my family. Having joined Brown Plus as an intern a decade ago, my journey has been a gratifying experience filled with many opportunities. When I moved to the PA/MD area with my husband from Oklahoma, I found out about Brown Plus initially through an online search, and it has been a great fit for me since the beginning. I enjoy public accounting because I love helping our clients with their accounting needs. Brown Plus Workplace by Design: Our flexible work arrangement policies allow our team members to choose the best option for their workday. Whether choosing to work in the office full-time or have a hybrid schedule, our team members can request an arrangement that works for them based on their team needs and job responsibilities.
Paid Parental Leave: We know that navigating the new and exciting territory of parenthood can be challenging, so we created a paid parental leave policy to ease some of the hardship. Eligible team members are provided with two weeks of paid time off for the birth or adoption of a child, in addition to short-term disability benefits.
Fun Events for Team Members and Families: At Brown Plus, our annual summer event is open to our team members and their families. In the past, our team members have enjoyed Hershey Park visits, Baltimore Orioles games and family picnics at the park. We also have our annual holiday party for team members and their guests.
