QuickBooks® Desktop is Being Discontinued for New Subscribers

After July 31, 2024, QuickBooks® Desktop will stop selling several products to new subscribers in the United States. Existing subscribers will not be impacted by this change and will be able to renew their subscriptions if they are in version 2022 or higher. QuickBooks® Desktop Enterprise products will also not be impacted, and customers can still purchase Enterprise subscriptions after the stop sell date.

What Products Will Intuit® Be Discontinuing?

Intuit® will no longer be selling new subscriptions to the following products:

  • QuickBooks® Desktop Pro Plus
  • QuickBooks® Desktop Premier Plus
  • QuickBooks® Desktop Mac Plus
  • QuickBooks® Desktop Enhanced Payroll

The discontinuation is only for new purchases and is not a complete discontinuation of the QuickBooks® Desktop Product line. Customers can still purchase a subscription to QuickBooks® Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus or Desktop Enhanced Payroll prior to the deadline on July 31, 2024 by contacting Accountant Sales at 844-437-2620.

How Will This Affect Existing Subscribers?

Existing QuickBooks® Desktop Plus, Desktop Payroll and Desktop Enterprise product subscribers will not be impacted by this change if they are in QuickBooks® 2022 or a higher version and will be able to renew their subscriptions after July 31, 2024. The deadline for stopping sales only affects new purchases made by accountants and their clients. Intuit® will continue to provide support along with security and product updates for existing subscribers.

Subscribers who have a suspended QuickBooks® Desktop Plus subscription can renew their subscription before the deadline. For any billing or payment issues, Intuit® sends an email and provides a 30-day grace period to renew after the final notice has been sent out.

What Is the Best Intuit® Accounting Software Options to Purchase After the July 31, 2024 Deadline?

Intuit® encourages customers to consider QuickBooks® Online as they continue to innovate and improve upon that product. They have products that meet the needs of every client, from the simplest to the most complex. Intuit® will also be releasing QuickBooks® Ledger which is designed for year-end, tax-only and low transaction clients.

Any customers who wish to purchase QuickBooks® Desktop software after July 31, 2024, can use QuickBooks® Enterprise, which will be the Intuit® Desktop solution. QuickBooks® Enterprise 24.0 will have accounting, inventory management, reporting, pricing rules, job costing, payroll, time tracking and more, all in one place. Customers can streamline order management with one central dashboard that controls their entire pick, pack and shipping process while sending instructions to mobile devices.

Can Clients Files Be Migrated?

QuickBooks® has an improved migration process that helps clients discover the flexibility of QuickBooks® Online when transitioning from the desktop software. There is no need to start over again with client files, customers can just move their desktop file to a QuickBooks® Online company file. There is also an accountant migration resource and a tactical guide developed by accountants for accountants for customers to use.
